June 23 2021 – Dale Jacobs

For our 5th installment of Featured Shop Friday, we caught up with Dale Jacobs, Owner of Prairie Supply Co. up in Dauphin, MB. Prairie Supply Co. is a Canadian owned company that brings you a unique blend of clothing and fine goods, stemming from the roots of skate, snow and street culture. They strive to bring a unique shopping experience while offering unbeatable customer service.

How long has your store been around?  Can you give us a brief history of your shop?

We have been rolling since 2010.  We are unique blend of clothing and fine goods, stemming from the roots of skate, snow and street culture. Alcoholics turned workaholics.

What trends do you see upcoming in the snowboarding world?

The struggle is real, we see riders looking for something more than just the cookie cutter brands these days. There is a new level of awareness for consumers wanting to know where their dollars are going. The big mega stores are dying and more and more people want some substance in what they buy and who they’re buying from. Sounds good to us.

Does your shop have a motto?

Cultivated in Manitoba, Homegrown in Canada.

Where do you and the shop team ride?

We are the great flat landers, so anywhere and everywhere. The boys have been seeing lots of street spots as of late, from playgrounds to freeways to your mommas house, anywhere the boys can hit it they will. As well our local snow hill, Asessippi Ski Area & Resort; mellow but good time.

Big up to our shop riders Jeremy Keith and Adrian Hrabarchuk!

Any favorite local hang-outs that you’d like to give a shout out to?

If you’re ever in the flatland area check out Asessippi Ski Area & Resort and for a good meal try out wood fired pizza and local beers at The Foxtail Cafe.

What sets you apart from your competitors?

We do things differently by taking risks to bring the most relevant products to our customers. Sometimes there are dollars lost by not packing our shops with the big boys, but instead by pushing the brands that we think have more substance and character. Don’t want to be rich, just want to be hood rich, ya know?!!

Please tell us about any upcoming initiatives your shop has planned (events, etc).

We hold multiple snow and skate events throughout the year; Rail Wars at Asessippi is always a gooder, check out our website and Facebook page for all the details.

What do you see for the future of the industry?

It’s the rise of the indies! Yayyy! Finding people that are passionate about what they do these days is tough. There are many people entering the market but the ones who are bringing substance and some meaning to what they do are going to be the ones who thrive. We care about snowboarding and we care about our customers because we are one in the same.

What’s your favorite piece of gear and why?

A good facemask to cover up my shovelface. It’s cold in the prairies..

If you could invent a new piece of gear for snowboarding, what would it be?

A soft shovel that you don’t feel in your jacket or pack, but when you are ready to use it, you pull it out and it gets hard. Solid!
